Girl Power [GP]

An LGBT friendly Guild Wars guild.

About Us September 28, 2006

Our guild is an old one, having originally formed during the very first World Preview Event at E3 in 2003. The original group was small, and comprised entirely of a group of my friends, all lesbians who played together in a few other games. The original concept was that [GP] would be an all-lesbian guild. However, eventually (and perhaps predictably) we had play experiences with good people who we wanted to have with us in the guild, despite their inconvenient Y chromosomes, or attraction to those with same. We decided to open up the membership to anyone that we got to know and liked, which would of necessity be persons mature and gay-friendly.

Our requirements solidified to be first and foremost: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and/or Transgender (LGBT) friendly (ie., you don’t have to be LGBT, but we don’t take bigots & homophobes.) Secondly, to preserve the freedom of members to talk freely on guild chat, and as a minimum guarantor of some level of maturity, members must be at least eighteen years of age. Now, of course, age is no true guarantee of maturity, and this rule has cost us the membership of people we would otherwise love to have in the guild, but we have made (and will make) no exceptions. (This has now been addressed by the creation of an allied guild, Power Is Ageless [gp], with the same standards of recruitment minus the age requirement.) Of course, the same goes for the first rule, but that is handled usually by our recruitment method: We play with and get to know people before they’re invited to the guild. You won’t ever find our officers spamming local chat with our guild stats.

We have grown slowly, usually by accepting a PUG in a mission, being impressed by their play style, intelligence, wit, and personality, and noticing they’re not guilded, at which time we talk to them about [GP], add them to our flist, and proceed to play the game with for a while, provided they express an interest in the guild. If it seems mutually profitable, they’re invited. The guild is a group of friends, and we maintain that by strict adherence to the Bill & Ted Principle, namely, “Be excellent to each other… and, party on, dudes!”

You may have gleaned from this that we’re largely PvE, which is true. However, we also have a robust PvP corps for those that are interested in that. We have officers for PvP purposes, so they can start GvG from our hall, etc. Some of our members have made quite a splash across the HA/GvG scene, you may have seen “Meditating Kitsune’s team has won a battle in the Hall of Heros…” or seen Living Too Die or Nemesis Furiae in Observer mode, as their primaries were members of Peace Machine Grr, and they guest for some pretty competitive guilds, including Ward Against Noobs [Wa].

We have several weekly events. Friday night we have Heroes’ Ascent, Saturday we have our guild outing (usually high end PvE like FOW/UW/Deep/Urgoz/Tombs/SF/DoA) and on Sunday we have GvG practice/scrimmage/actual GvG (depending on what we’re in the mood for), and also we sponsor a girl gamer only event, Girl Power Hour.

The guild is Kurzick aligned and is starting our own alliance. We are not faction farmers. We don’t require or even suggest members do anything with their Kurzick faction but trade it for amber. If you’re going for the “Friend of the Kurzicks” title and want to donate faction to accomplish that, then you’re certainly welcome. But our alliance isn’t in the business of trying to control towns in Factions.

If you are looking for a friendly, mature, LGBT-friendly guild and meet our requirements, get in touch with me either here or in game (I have a lot of characters, but they all end in “Anadri” – just add Robin Anadri to your flist and send me a whisper) and we’ll meet and chat, get to know each other. You may also contact our officers:

Aine Night
Sami Fly
Celestial Kitsune
Nyx Furiae
Brown Pinapple
I Gary I

If you like us, but aren’t eighteen, you can be considered for membership in Power Is Ageless [gp]. If you’re a bigot, misogynist, and/or a homophobe, we can’t help and don’t want you, but if you’ve read this far you’ve probably figured that out. :)
